Israeli jets have reportedly carried out an airstrike inside Syria - for the first time in more than five years.<br /><br />But there are conflicting accounts of what the target was.<br /><br />Regional security sources quoted by the Reuters news agency say Israeli aircraft attacked a convoy of trucks carrying weapons towards the border with Lebanon.<br /><br />The Syrian state news agency, however, says Israeli jets have bombed a scientific research centre in Jamraya on the outskirts of the capital Damascus.<br /><br />Lebanon's military says Israeli jets flew into Syrian airspace three times.<br /><br />They say the attack destroyed the centre, killing two workers and wounding five others.<br /><br />Michael Eisenstadt, a former military analyst with the US government, spoke to Al Jazeera about the recent events in Syria.
